With the launch of new sugar factories within the next two to three years, we will become totally self-reliant in this respect,” Alireza Yazdani was quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency.  Some 1.65 million tons of sugar were produced in Iran last year (March 2016-17), which are unprecedented in the past 120 years.  A ceremony was held at the headquarters of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture in Tehran last July to celebrate the record high production, which met 75% of the domestic demand that year.
